Supply chain problems were prominent during the COVID-19 lockdown amid a “perfect storm” of causes, including shifts in demand, labor shortages, and structural factors. While the supply chain shortages started with COVID, they’re also due to increased consumer demand fueled by the unneeded federal stimulus checks. Fueling a shift in consumer demand has exacerbated supply chain issues.
The town of Cape Charles has felt the pain of sketchy supply chain issues. Parts, supplies and equipment were not available. Many parts and products have been delivered. Project work that had been delayed until after June 30, 2022 is not ready to go, but still needs to be funded.
Due to the giant cluster the town finds itself in, it will need to re-appropriate $244k in town funds to meet the demand.

A public hearing is set for September 15, 2022 to review the requested amendments to the fiscal year 2023 budget.
