Public Works Continues to Ready for the Beach Season

Cape Charles, VA – In a recent report from the Cape Charles Public Works Manager, the community was informed of various updates and accomplishments achieved by the team.

Firstly, the report highlighted a notable milestone as Joe Gittenger, a member of the team, was congratulated for obtaining his driver’s license. Residents were encouraged to extend their well wishes should they spot Joe driving solo.

Additionally, the public works team has been diligently preparing the town’s facilities for the upcoming season. The beach bathhouse is now open for normal operations, along with all other restrooms across town. Notably, progress on the Tazewell deck repairs has reached 90% completion, showcasing the team’s commitment to infrastructure maintenance.

Updates on various projects included:

• Completion of 50% of the archive storage relocation to a new location.
• Servicing of a 2013 Dodge Charger and inspection and installation of new tires on a 2017 Ford F250.
• Execution of several work orders, reflecting the team’s versatility and responsiveness.
• Maintenance tasks such as clearing sand from the fishing pier and sidewalk, daily debris pick-up on the beach, and cleaning storm drain openings to facilitate rainwater disbursement.
• Routine brush and yard debris pick-ups, including the recycling of 7 truckloads of brush, totaling approximately 1190 cubic yards.
• Regular trash pick-ups from municipal trash cans, with a total of 33 cans serviced daily, alongside the dumping, swapping, and repair of residential trash cans. One new can was delivered as part of this effort.
• Grass cutting across various locations, including the Pine Street pump station, Civic Center, New Roots area, Mason Ave (Silver Bullet), lot behind the library, Peach Street median, and East Monroe.
