CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Cape Charles Police Department has released its annual statistics for 2024, highlighting an increase in community activity and law enforcement efforts in the coastal town.
The department responded to 1,394 calls for service within Cape Charles and 86 calls outside of town, bringing the total to 1,480. These numbers reflect a slight decrease from the record 1,483 calls in 2023 but remain significantly higher than earlier years.
Law enforcement activity in 2024 included 16 felony arrests and 33 misdemeanor arrests. Officers issued 324 traffic summonses and 390 parking tickets, underscoring a focus on traffic and parking enforcement in the town’s high-traffic areas.
Community engagement remained a priority, with officers logging 552 hours on foot patrol within Cape Charles and 281 hours patrolling Bay Creek. Additionally, 776 building checks were conducted throughout the year, contributing to a sense of security for residents and businesses.
The department’s annual statistics show a steady increase in calls for service over the past decade. In 2014, the department handled 754 calls, a figure that has nearly doubled in recent years. Calls for service have grown consistently, peaking in 2023 before stabilizing at 1,480 in 2024.
