CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Cape Charles Historic District Review Board approved several property improvement applications during a special meeting Tuesday, while denying one request involving the staining of masonry on a historic home.
The board reviewed and approved a Certificate of Appropriateness for 208 Bay Avenue, allowing the property owner to replace the front porch flooring, construct a rear porch and an accessory structure, and install two outdoor showers, a pathway, a parking pad, and a fence.
An application to construct a rear addition at 509 Harbor Avenue was also approved, along with an “after-the-fact” application to complete construction of an accessory building at 509 Madison Avenue.
Additionally, the board approved the installation of a new clock at the Strawberry Street Plaza on Mason Avenue, identified as Tax Map #83A3-4-X.
At 1 Monroe Avenue, the board approved the installation of a fence, pergola, hot tub with landscape screening. However, the property owner’s request to stain the existing brick on the single-family dwelling was denied, in keeping with the board’s guidelines to preserve the historic character of masonry structures.
The Historic District Review Board is responsible for reviewing exterior changes to properties within the town’s historic district to ensure compliance with preservation standards.
