CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Cape Charles Harbor had a bustling July, welcoming 193 transient vessels and 184 hourly boats, according to the Harbor Master’s latest report. Crews pumped 33,500 gallons of fuel during the month, all while contending with intense summer heat.
Despite the high temperatures, harbor staff are looking forward to a cooler weekend, which is expected to bring relief for both visitors and crew. While conditions may not be ideal for boating, the forecast promises a more comfortable environment for the lineup of events taking place Aug. 1-3, including the Crab Slam boat docking competition, Coast Guard Appreciation Day, the Shriner’s Parade, and a performance by The Deloreans in Central Park.
The harbor has received 72 five-star reviews from guests this season. Staff have also been coordinating with the Cape Charles Cup Committee to arrange slip assignments for the upcoming regatta.
Several personnel changes are underway. Assistant Harbor Master Tyler Brown is leaving next week to join the Cape Charles Police Department. Tim Hamann will step into the assistant role, and new hire Elic Stevens has joined as Head of Maintenance.
As of the latest update, the harbor has confirmed 857 transient reservations for the season, totaling 2,465 nights with an average stay of 2.9 nights. Routine dock, bathhouse, parking lot, and lawn maintenance continue as the harbor prepares for the remainder of the summer season.
