CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Cape Charles Building Department reported a steady pace of activity this month, completing 35 inspections and issuing 11 permits, according to the latest update from the town’s building official.
The department also performed two rental inspections, though no new rental inspection applications were processed. Meanwhile, the permit technician has been preparing for the town’s upcoming move this fall by scanning older plans into a cloud-based system and organizing file cabinets to centralize zoning and building files.
Among current projects, the building official reviewed and approved plans for a new home on Muirfield Drive, issued a permit for a private swimming pool on Sunset Boulevard, and received plans for a commercial renovation at 1 Clubhouse Way that will be reviewed in the coming weeks.
The department also coordinated with the town’s zoning administrator on several ongoing projects, attended the weekly department head staff meeting, and held a conference call with Northampton County regarding updates to the 911 addressing system for obtaining new addresses.
Town officials said these efforts are part of broader improvements to streamline permitting and record-keeping ahead of Cape Charles’ transition to new offices later this year.
