CAPE CHARLES, Va. — Demolition work on the second phase of Cape Charles’ Harbor Boardwalk Reconstruction project has stalled after the contractor handling the job filed for bankruptcy, town officials said.
Carolina Marine Structures had begun tearing out aging sections of the boardwalk and had completed roughly half of the demolition when the company ceased operations. The unexpected shutdown left the project in limbo and forced the town to reevaluate its next steps.
Officials said they will revise the scope of work to reflect the partially completed demolition and then invite the remaining three bidders from the original procurement process to submit updated proposals.
The town has not yet provided a revised project timeline but said restarting the bid process is the fastest way to move the reconstruction effort forward.
