CAPE CHARLES, Va. — Cape Charles police responded to a broad range of calls during August, including vehicle accidents, domestic disputes, an assault, a reported car break-in and several medical and welfare-related incidents, according to the department’s latest activity report.
In addition to responding to calls for service, officers continued routine law enforcement duties throughout town, including building checks, traffic enforcement, code violation enforcement and foot patrols.
Vehicle-related incidents accounted for several calls during the reporting period. Police responded to four vehicle accidents, a hit-and-run, two reports of vehicles blocking driveways and a vehicle lockout.
Officers also responded to a report of a car break-in and a complaint involving a golf cart operating on Stone Road.
Several calls involved disputes or potentially volatile situations, including two domestic disputes, a fight in progress, an assault, a disorderly subject and an intoxicated subject. Police also handled a civil dispute and a report of fraud.
The department responded to several calls involving health, safety and welfare concerns. Those included three requests to assist emergency medical services, three welfare checks, a mental health emergency, a report of a suicidal subject and an unconscious and unresponsive person.
In another unusual call, officers responded to a child who had become locked in a room.
Police also investigated a 911 hang-up, a report of smoke on Bay Avenue and three unsecured business doors. Officers provided several citizen assists as well as translation assistance.
The month’s calls were not limited to people and vehicles. Police also received a report involving a sick raccoon.
Beyond regular patrol and response duties, the department reported installing “no wake” buoys for the Cape Charles Town Harbor.
The August activity reflects the wide range of responsibilities handled by officers during the summer season, when Cape Charles sees increased activity from residents, visitors, vehicles, golf carts and boaters.
Routine building checks, foot patrols and traffic and code enforcement continued alongside responses to emergency and non-emergency calls throughout the town.
