Cape Charles, Va. — Concerns about uncontrolled dogs and persistent barking in residential neighborhoods have prompted responses from town officials, as residents on Randolph and Tazewell avenues report disruptions affecting safety and quality of life.
On Randolph Avenue, a resident complaint described a dog “barking and baying incessantly for long periods of time,” with disturbances extending late into the night. The issue, neighbors say, has made it difficult to rest and enjoy their homes.
Town officials confirmed the concern has been forwarded to the Cape Charles Police Chief for further investigation.
Meanwhile, on Tazewell Avenue, a separate incident raised safety concerns after a golden retriever was reportedly seen off-leash chasing a cat. A nearby resident said the situation prevented them from walking their own dog out of fear of a potential attack.
In response, the Town Manager consulted with the Police Chief, who emphasized that residents should immediately contact law enforcement if they observe dogs running loose.
The reminder comes with a clear reference to Town Code Sec. 22-321(a)(1–5), which requires all dogs in public places to be kept on a leash.
Officials say enforcement of leash laws is critical not only for public safety, but also for maintaining harmony in residential neighborhoods.
As Cape Charles continues to grow, town leaders say consistent enforcement—and community cooperation—will be key to ensuring neighborhoods remain safe and livable for residents and their pets alike.
