Cape Charles Reminds Businesses: BPOL License Applications Due April 15

CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Town of Cape Charles is reminding local businesses that Business, Professional and Occupational License (BPOL) tax applications must be submitted by Wednesday, April 15.

Town officials say the Finance Department, led by Katie Lewis, is available to assist business owners with completing and submitting their applications to ensure they are filed correctly.

Businesses can receive assistance by calling 757-331-3259 (Option 1), emailing katie.lewis@capecharles.org, or visiting the Town offices in person to meet with a member of the finance team.

According to the town, all applications are date-stamped when received, and businesses that submit their forms before the April 15 deadline will avoid late penalties.

Applications filed after the deadline are subject to a late penalty equal to 10% of the tax due or $10, whichever is greater, town officials said.

The BPOL tax is a state-authorized local tax that requires most businesses operating within the town to obtain an annual license and report gross receipts from the previous year.

Town staff encourage businesses to submit applications early and contact the Finance Department if they have questions about the process.
