Cape Charles officials are reminding business owners and short-term rental operators that the deadline for timely submission of 2026 Business, Professional and Occupational License (BPOL) renewals and Short-Term Rental (STR) applications was April 15.
Town staff are encouraging anyone who has not yet submitted the required applications, payments and supporting documentation to take action as soon as possible.
Businesses that are no longer operating are also asked to notify the town so their licenses can be properly deactivated.
According to the notice, business owners and STR operators who missed the deadline should contact Business License Specialist Katie Lewis to arrange for a late filing or to discuss the closure of a business. The reminder comes as the town continues processing 2026 business licenses and short-term rental applications, which are required for legal operation within Cape Charles. Officials have previously noted that some STR applications have experienced delays due to processing issues, making communication with town staff important for property owners seeking to remain in compliance.
