TASLEY, Va. — President Donald Trump has recognized the Tasley Volunteer Fire Company as the Eastern Shore organization celebrates 100 years of service.
In a White House letter, Trump congratulated the company on reaching its centennial and recognized the generations of volunteer firefighters who have served the Tasley community.
The president praised the department’s longstanding tradition of public service and wished the company continued success, safety and prosperity.
The Tasley Volunteer Fire Company was established on Feb. 1, 1926, following a devastating fire at a local lumber mill that nearly destroyed the community. According to the company’s history, residents battled the blaze with bucket brigades for three days.
About a week later, community members gathered at the West & Wessels General Store, where plans were made to organize a volunteer fire company. That effort became the Tasley Volunteer Fire Company, beginning a century of service to the community.

The White House recognition adds a national acknowledgment to the company’s centennial celebration, marking a legacy that began with neighbors coming together to protect their community and continues through the volunteers serving Tasley today.
