  1. We now, aparently, have a third fatality. We need answers now. I, at least , believe there is a connection with this string of deaths, and a change in ship movements due to the anchorage change. Are there measures that be taken to enforce speed limits and other shipping movement by USCG? I plan on making a few phone calls to express my concern, I encourage others to do the same.

Note: The “proposed permanent anchorage” off of Cape Charles has not been set by the USCG at this time, however the Mirror has contacted the Coast Guard about whether shipping lanes have been, or will be changed for the southern portion of the Chesapeake Bay near Cape Charles and the CBBT to accommodate traffic to the proposed anchorages, as well as if there was an impact study on the effects to migratory animals done as part of the process. USCG responded that,”the Coast Guard is currently considering its regulatory responsibilities and options.” The Mirror also contacted the Virginia Aquarium, and while they were not completely aware of the proposed anchorage changes, they have been in contact with partners such NOAA for all aspects of the current strandings.
