In celebration of Earth Day on April 22, Virginia State Parks offers a range of special events and activities during the month of April highlighting the importance of conservation and sustainability. Visitors are invited to participate in educational programs, guided nature walks, wildlife observation, tree plantings and service projects to help preserve the beauty and biodiversity of the state’s 43 parks.
“On April 19, we will preserve the beauty of the Big Water Visitor Center by cleaning out flower beds, weeding the walkways, and planting native species,” said Kiptopeke State Park Manager Sean Dixon. “Come prepared to get your hands dirty, bring gardening gloves and wear appropriate clothing. We are excited to work with our community and everyone who comes out to volunteer at the park to celebrate Earth Day.”
Those interested in participating in the Earth Day Cleanup will need to meet the park staff at the Big Water Visitor Center at 9 a.m. The cleanup will end at 11 a.m. and guests are encouraged to dress for working outdoors.
