Town of Cape Charles, Virginia, Names New Harbor Master for Cape Charles Harbor
The town of Cape Charles, Virginia, today announces the hiring of Charlie T. Farlow, Jr., as the next Harbor Master of the Cape Charles Harbor. Mr. Farlow will assume his new position on 1 February 2016.
Mr. Farlow has been with the city of Virginia Beach, Virginia, for over twenty years, serving the Fire Department as a Master Fire Fighter. Additionally, Mr. Farlow has been a vital part of the Virginia Beach Fire Department Marine Response Team, and a member of the Virginia Port Authority’s Hampton Roads Maritime Incident Response Team. A professional mariner for over forty years, Mr. Farlow, for the last 25 years, has held a United States Coast Guard Master License. Mr. Farlow holds certifications in hazardous materials operations, and Incident Command Level 300 and 700.
In addition to his public service, Mr. Farlow was the owner of a maritime construction company, providing construction services for residential and commercial docks, bulkheads and boat lifts throughout Hampton Roads and the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
“After a very competitive candidate review process, the town is very pleased to welcome Mr. Farlow, who offers a very impressive skill set and the background necessary to lead the Cape Charles Harbor,” said Town Manager Brent Manuel.

How old is this guy a hundred? If he’s done all these different jobs and businesses and been so successful my question is why isn’t he retired? It doesn’t make sense to me to hire some old man when what we need is someone young with ability and the talent to bring in new boaters. In all reality Kings Creek is a much safer harbor anyway.
He is only like 52 years old! I wouldn’t consider that an old man!
If you had read the article the way that I did, you would see that it says he was a professional mariner for over 40 years. So I guess that means he became a professional at the age of 12?
The average life expectancy for a Human Male is 78.7 years. That means that at a 39.5 year old man is ‘Middle-Aged’. This does not fit the narrative that most humans wish to believe. The truth is rarely welcomed in this world of smoke and mirrors. So a man pushing 55 is almost a senior citizen.
Wonderful news!!
Congratulations!!
Very happy for you, your lovely family
& the Port of Cape Charles!
Mr. Farlow sounds like a hard working and highly qualified selection for this position. Welcome to Cape Charles and congratulations.
This appointment brings a new and needed level of professionalism to the harbor. The town has done a good job.
I hope the town folk give this guy a fair shake. Just because things are not well with the harbor, reports of lost revenue, dock-age etc…. don’t hold it against the new guy. Give him a level playing field to start off. Remember, he can’t fix everything in one day, brick by brick, one day at a time. Expecting the impossible overnight will not be fair to him or the town, also unless you know the guy don’t speculate on his past unless you proof.
