Cape Charles reviews contract to repair Inshore Breakwater

February 13, 2022 by Wayne Creed Leave a Comment

Last spring, the inshore breakwater near the harbor was was damaged when a vessel strafed the northern end. A portion of the horizontal timber waler was broken, many of the piling bolts were sheared, one section of sheet piling was also damaged.

The firm of Langley & McDonald has noted that the breakwater is in critical condition and in danger of structurally failing during a severe storm event. Langley has provided a scope of work for the needed repairs.
Marine Contracting Corporation submitted a bid in the amount of $121,380. Marine Contracting Corporation was the company that built the in-shore breakwater and is familiar with the design

The Town received funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant ($528,615), and funding for the breakwater repairs will most likely be derived from this grant.

Town Council will vote on this measure at the next Regular Meeting this Thursday.
