CAPE CHARLES, Va. — Cape Charles Capital Projects Manager Bob Panek has reported progress on several key initiatives, including finalizing a lease for temporary town office space and addressing citizen input on municipal building design.
The lease for office space at Trinity United Methodist Church has been completed and sent to Wesley Community Development Corporation for final review. A staff report was prepared for Town Council’s consideration at a special meeting scheduled for Aug. 7.
In consultation with architectural firm HBA, the town reviewed a citizen suggestion to make the new municipal building’s restrooms non-gender. A report detailing the design changes and additional construction costs was provided to the Town Manager.
The manager also provided input on options for additional public restrooms in the business district, which was discussed at the Aug. 7 Public Input Meeting.
Other updates included discussions on reducing planned handicapped-accessible parking spaces at the end of Park Row from three to two due to site constraints, finalizing logistics for Coast Guard Appreciation Day, and completing a draft request for proposals to develop workforce housing on a town-owned parcel between Cassatt Parkway and Old Cape Charles Road. The draft has been sent to the Town Manager and town planner for review.
