Below are the latest Capital Project updates provided by the CP Manager Bob Panek:
- Progress on the Community Trail, Phase 3, includes the completion of work on the east side curb and gutter, while the west side sidewalk has been fully constructed. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) conducted an on-site inspection. However, the project currently faces a setback, as it is reported to be five weeks behind schedule. Efforts to expedite progress are underway.
- The Staff has been actively engaged in financial management, submitting the second reimbursement request to VDOT under the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) for eligible expenses incurred during the project’s implementation.
- Another significant endeavor involves the Inner Harbor Bulkhead Rehabilitation project, for which the manager has submitted the third reimbursement request to the Virginia Port Authority under the Aid to Local Ports grant program.
- Bob Panek participated in a strategic planning session with the Council and Planning Commission, emphasizing collaboration and coordinated efforts in shaping the town’s future development and infrastructure priorities.
- Collaboration with the Town Attorney on real estate matters related to the sale of water and wastewater utilities underscores the comprehensive approach to managing municipal assets and resources.
- Staff is in the process of preparing a presentation for the Council’s Executive Session on contracting strategies for several capital projects. This aims to optimize resource allocation and project outcomes.
