CAPE CHARLES, Va. — During its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 16, 2024, at 5:00 p.m., the Historic District Review Board (HDRB) approved several Certificate of Appropriateness applications, paving the way for renovations and improvements within the historic district.
Approved Applications:
- 118 Fig Street: The board approved the replacement of existing wood porch flooring with AZEK on the two-story single-family dwelling.
- 711 Fig Street: The renovation of a 257 sq. ft. accessory structure was approved, including the replacement of an existing wood door with a fiberglass door, the addition of one window, and repairs to the existing vinyl siding.
- 301 Mason Avenue: The board approved the enlargement of signage on the front balcony of the commercial building from 2’ x 8’ to 3’ 9” x 8’ 1”.
- 212 Randolph Avenue: The application to replace the existing 6-lite single wood door (5’ x 8’), 1/1 side lights, and 3-lite transom with a ¾-lite/1-panel fiberglass double entry door (6’ x 7’) and single lite transom was approved with a modification to the door component. Additionally, the parging of one existing chimney on the two-story single-family dwelling was approved.
Tabled Application:
- 607 Randolph Avenue: The board tabled the application for multiple modifications, including the construction of a rear two-story addition, extension of the second-story deck along the rear, replacement of existing cement front porch flooring with wood porch flooring using the same footprint, enclosure of 2’ of the left side lower deck, and restoration of the shutters. The item was tabled until the August meeting due to the inability to reach the applicant and additional questions from the HDRB.
The next meeting of the Historic District Review Board will take place in August, where the tabled application and any new applications will be reviewed. The HDRB continues to ensure that renovations and improvements within the historic district maintain the town’s architectural integrity and historical significance.
