CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Cape Charles Historic District Review Board will convene for a special meeting Tuesday, July 15, at 5 p.m. to review four Certificate of Appropriateness applications for projects involving exterior modifications and new construction within the town’s historic district.
The agenda includes a proposal from Sam and Cindy Slate to replace existing 9-over-9 wood windows with 9-over-9 vinyl windows on their three-story commercial building located at 115 Mason Avenue, Unit 201. The Slates are seeking to modernize their property while maintaining its architectural symmetry.
At 629 Jefferson Avenue, Edward and Stephanie Barham are requesting approval to add an extension with a fireplace to their existing detached garage. The addition is intended to enhance the usability of the structure while remaining consistent with the neighborhood’s character.
A multi-part application has been submitted for 647 Madison Avenue by Jay and Jordan Schlosser and their representative, Claudine Pierce, doing business as Peacock Cottage LLC. The proposed modifications include screening the front porch, constructing a new rear accessory structure, and installing a perimeter fence.
The Board will also review a proposal to construct a new 1-1/2 story single-family residence with a rear outdoor shower on a vacant lot identified as Tax Map #83A1-1-104, located along Washington Avenue. The new build aims to complement the surrounding historic homes while incorporating updated amenities.
All applicants are required to comply with the town’s historic design guidelines, and the Board will evaluate each project’s compatibility with the surrounding district in terms of materials, scale, and historic integrity.
The meeting is open to the public and will take place at the Cape Charles Civic Center.
So the names of three of these properties are publicly released, why not the fourth on washington avenue?
