Cape Charles is hiring a full-time Wastewater Utility Technician

The Town of Cape Charles is seeking a full-time Wastewater Utility Technician.  If you have the right work ethic, take direction well, and are interested in pursuing a rewarding career in utilities, we will train you. 

To be successful in this position you must have the ability to follow written and oral direction, have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and possess a high school diploma or a GED.  Having good technical skills and/or maintenance experience is a plus.  You must also be able to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed, as well as occasional “on-call” time.

You will be trained in the following areas:

  • How to monitor the operational phases and processes of the plant, ensuring the proper function of all machinery and equipment as related to the treatment of wastewater
  • How to monitor, maintain, and repair various pump stations and collection systems
  • The ability to calculate and administer proper chemical dosages and calibrate chemical feeders.  The Technician must also be able to perform periodic tests of wastewater quality and ensure proper documentation

Applicant must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check, be physically fit, capable of working in the field during inclement conditions, and capable of lifting up to 50 pounds regularly.  This is a full time, non-exempt position eligible for overtime.  Full benefits including medical, dental, state retirement and paid time off.  Starting salary $14.50-16.25/hour DOQ.
