CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Town of Cape Charles Planning and Zoning Department is continuing efforts to improve municipal software systems, aiming to increase public accessibility and streamline internal operations.
Town officials recently consulted with BS&A, the vendor behind the Building Department’s current permitting software, to explore additional features that would allow residents to submit applications and make payments online. The expansion would also integrate the Planning and Zoning Department into the existing permitting platform.
According to the town, BS&A will develop a proposed scope of work and associated costs, and set up software demonstrations for town staff in the coming weeks.
In a separate initiative, Planning and Zoning met with Deckard Technologies on Thursday, May 22, for an initial intake session to begin setting up a Short-Term Rental (STR) Portal. The department provided a running spreadsheet of all licensed STRs in 2025 to assist in establishing individual property accounts within the system.
Both upgrades are part of a broader effort to modernize administrative functions and improve service delivery to residents and property owners.
It would be a great start if the department would answer e-mails, I would think that should be a basic expectation before the worry of any additional IT functions. Another example of government loosing total reality of priorities.
