CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Cape Charles Police Department released its latest weekly and monthly activity statistics, highlighting routine enforcement work, community assistance calls, and ongoing officer training.
Monthly Activity
Police reported completing numerous building checks, traffic summons, code enforcement actions, and foot patrols as part of general law enforcement duties.
Officers also responded to a range of calls for service, including:
- Code Grey response
- Dog at large
- Hazard in roadway
- Four residential alarms
- Two trespassing incidents
- Two calls involving a mental health subject
- Assistance to the local food bank
- An officer needing assistance
- Three citizen assists
- Suspicious vehicle
- Four welfare checks
- Stolen vehicle assist
- Suspect identification request from the Grayson Police Department (GPD)
- Vehicle accident
- Multiple agency assists
Officer Training
All officers completed their annual firearms qualifications. Additional specialized training included:
- Officer Brown: BOLA Wrap (less-lethal restraint) certification
- Sgt. Lewis: New radio system instructor training
- Sgt. Diaz: Attendance at the Virginia Gang Conference
- Chief Pruitt: Threat assessment training
Monthly Statistics — October 2025
The department logged 85 calls for service within Cape Charles and four calls for assistance outside town limits. Officers reported:
- Felony arrests: 0
- Misdemeanor arrests: 0
- Traffic summons: 29
- Golf cart interactions: 4
- Parking tickets issued: 29
- Building checks: 40
- Assists to Northampton County Sheriff’s Office: 3
- Assists to Virginia State Police: 1
- Assists to other agencies: (no additional number reported)
- Foot patrol hours: 52
- Bay Creek patrol hours: 26
Community & Department Activities
In addition to regular patrols and enforcement, officers participated in several community and training initiatives, including:
- A Halloween safety presentation at Cape Charles Christian School
- Mobile Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) training
- Gang conference participation
- Radio instructor training
- Firearms qualifications
- BOLA Wrap certification
- Safety support during Election Day polling
The department said it will continue prioritizing community engagement, patrol coverage, and officer readiness as the town moves into the holiday season.
