CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Town of Cape Charles announced several significant updates on its ongoing capital projects, reflecting progress on infrastructure improvements and future developments.
Town officials, in coordination with the architectural consultant HBA, are in the final stages of structuring bidding documents for the construction of new municipal offices and a visitors center. These new facilities are set to streamline town operations and provide enhanced services to visitors.
Efforts continue in partnership with Virginia American Water on the Keck Wells 1 & 2 pipelines project. The town is working to secure the necessary easements for the pipelines, with construction planned to commence in early 2025.
Additionally, Cape Charles Marine Services has begun demolition of deteriorating sections of the outer harbor boardwalk. This work, which is in preparation for the first phase of reconstruction using concrete, will improve the safety and appearance of the harbor area.
An assessment of the town’s harbor facilities has also been completed at the request of the Accomack-Northampton Planning District Commission. The findings will assist in efforts to obtain grant funding for further improvements.
In other developments, the town has received approval from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) for a Land Use Permit related to a sidewalk infill project on Strawberry Street, adjacent to Central Park. The town plans to advertise an Invitation for Bids for the project next week.
