CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Cape Charles Public Works Department faced a challenging week as winter weather brought ice and safety concerns to the town. Despite the cold conditions, crews managed to keep up with regular operations while also making improvements indoors and addressing work orders.
During the first snowfall, a few employees were absent due to family needs, but the team successfully completed several inside projects. Outdoor efforts continued with normal brush and yard debris pickups, totaling four full truckloads—approximately 680 cubic yards—hauled for recycling. Municipal trash pickups remained consistent, with 38 cans serviced daily.
Public Works also focused on clearing overgrown vegetation along town-owned sidewalks to maintain pedestrian access. Routine work orders were completed, including vehicle maintenance tasks such as one state inspection, two oil changes for the police department, and repairs to the Kubota RTX900 utility vehicle.
Residential waste services saw continued attention, with one trash can picked up and another delivered. Meanwhile, seasonal grass cutting has officially concluded, though the department will monitor areas for any necessary upkeep.
