CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The town of Cape Charles is accepting applications for a full-time Library Assistant position at the Cape Charles Memorial Library, officials announced.
The position requires strong customer service and communication skills, as the assistant will interact daily with community members including residents, tourists, students, parents and children.
Primary responsibilities include planning and facilitating programs for all age groups, shelving materials, assisting patrons, data entry, compiling statistics and providing computer instruction. The role emphasizes library programming and community outreach, requiring off-site work and collaboration with local organizations.
Town officials said the ideal candidate should be comfortable troubleshooting technology, possess working knowledge of library operations and enjoy helping others. Experience with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programming is preferred but not required.
“Library programs and outreach is a large part of the candidate’s responsibility,” the job posting states. Successful applicants must demonstrate experience in programming through library work, educational settings or service industry backgrounds.
The hourly, non-exempt position offers competitive pay based on experience and education. Full-time employees receive a benefits package including medical and dental coverage, state retirement and paid time off.
Physical requirements include lifting materials and using step stools for shelving. The position includes some Saturday and evening hours.
