Town Manager John Hozey has been authorized to sign and submit appropriate documents for the submittal of this Industrial Revitalization Fund proposal that may funnel up to $1 million dollars into the Cape Charles Rosenwald School Restoration Initiative (CCRSRI).
The town met with CCRSRI Board of Directors regarding a potential grant through the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) for Industrial Revitalization Funds (IRF). The grant was available to localities for qualifying projects, and no match is required. Staff notes that providing assistance will not place a burden on current staff responsibilities.
The Rosenwald School meets the requirement of the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development Industrial Revitalization Funds Program:
- Vacant non-residential structures whose poor condition creates physical and economic blight to the surrounding area in which the structure is located. ;
- Eligible properties include structures formerly used for manufacturing, warehousing, mining, transportation, and power production, as well as large-scale white elephant structures, such as department stores, theaters, hotels, and shopping centers.
I’d like to propose similar grant be applied for the blighted structure of the former grocery store on Stone rd and Fulcher . Can the town pursue this with whoever owns the property now?
