NORTHAMPTON COUNTY — The Northampton County Branch of the NAACP, in collaboration with the Eastern Shore Area Agency on Aging/Community Action Agency (ESAAA/CAA) and Citizens for a Better Eastern Shore, will honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a day of celebration and service on Jan. 20.
The event will begin with a broadcast on WESR 103.3 at 9 a.m., followed by “S.O.U.P.” (Serving Our Unified People) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Seniors in the community are invited to enjoy free soup served at the historic Gidden’s Dew Drop Inn. Takeout and limited delivery options will also be available for seniors unable to attend in person.
Organizers are calling for volunteers to assist with the event. This day is not just about remembering Dr. King’s vision but about living it through acts of service that unify and uplift our community.
Community members who wish to volunteer or make a donation can contact Cabarrus at 804-513-0532 or by email at northamptonnaacp7099@gmail.com.
The organizers encourage everyone to participate in this meaningful day, whether by volunteering, donating, or simply sharing a meal with a senior. Together, we can make a difference and honor Dr. King’s dream of a beloved community.
