CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Eastern Shore of Virginia is getting a new LOVE work sign, and organizers are calling on local artists, students, and art programs to help design it.
The Eastern Shore of Virginia Tourism Commission, in collaboration with the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel (CBBT), is creating the sign to greet travelers at the Eastern Shore Welcome Center, the first stop for many arriving on the peninsula.
The LOVEwork program, part of a broader state initiative promoting tourism and community pride, features large installations spelling out the word “LOVE,” each uniquely styled to reflect the character of its location. This new installation is expected to celebrate the Shore’s culture, history, natural beauty, and heritage.
To be considered, participants must submit an original concept design by July 31. Submissions should include the artist’s name, contact information, a brief bio detailing their connection to the Shore, a short description of the design, and high-resolution visuals in any medium—whether sketches, digital renderings, or paintings.
Artwork should be original and suitable for permanent outdoor display. Organizers emphasize that designs must strongly represent the Eastern Shore’s identity, incorporating elements that reflect its traditions, attractions, and natural surroundings.
Submissions should be emailed to mlawson@esvatourism.org. The chosen design will become a prominent symbol welcoming visitors to Virginia’s Eastern Shore for years to come.
Just so everyone knows, they are planning on getting rid of the LOVE sign at the beach!
