The Agricultural Workers Advocacy Coalition (AWAC) focuses efforts on improving the living and working conditions of seasonal workers living in labor camps on the Eastern Shore. Heat stress is a significant health issue. After working in the fields all day, they return to cinder block units with tin roofs that have heated up all day. There is little relief from Shore heat and humidity.
AWAC and Dos Santos are seeking donations of used window air conditioner units and funds to buy new ones. The units are loaned to workers for the season and returned for redistribution next season. If you are able to contribute, THANK YOU! Used units may be delivered to the Dos Santos Thrift Store in Onley. Financial contributions may be sent to: Dos Santos, P.O. Box 862, Onley, VA, 23418. Please write “air conditioners” on the memo line of your check.
