Should the Eastern Shore Tourism Commission be sued for false advertising, “You’ll Love Our Nature”? Have they actually taken a good look at this place and seen all the trash lying around?
The first thing I do each day is walk out to the street and see what kind of trash our local human garbage has thrown out the car window. Usually it’s pop bottles or beer bottles. The beer I get, that’s from underage kids driving around getting drunk and disposing of the evidence by tossing it out the window.
There have been times where I see folks just throw bags of fast food trash right onto the street as they are driving, or sometimes brazenly tossing it out the window while parked or at a traffic light. Last week, I found a bag of Hardee’s trash lying right in the middle of the road, hardly 25 feet from a trash can.
Who does this? What is wrong with people?
As an experiment, I pulled up to a random spot and gave myself only five minutes to see what kind of trash was lurking in our pristine natural habitat:
This is really indicative of a larger issue. Laziness and carelessness have bred a culture of habitual littering. Carelessness has made people throw rubbish anywhere without thinking about the consequences of their actions. Many people do not realize or underestimate the negative impacts of littering on the environment.
People believe that their individual actions will not harm society as a whole. As a result, it is common to see people throwing wrappers, cigarette butts, and other rubbish in public areas.
Most people believe that somebody else will clean up after them and the responsibility of cleaning up litter is local government’s job.
If you are wondering how Northampton could go for Biden, look no further than the trash in street and the lack of responsibility for those that are creating the problem.

Amen thanks for bringing attention to this.

Everyone in my vehicles gets a speech about no trash gets thrown out the windows. Ever. If you can carry a soda or sandwich or whatever into the vehicle, the leftover garbage is a lot lighter and very easy to carry out. Therefore it is pure rudeness, laziness and stupidity that has trash thrown out into this beautiful part of America, or any part of America.
It is very difficult for the rest of us to fix stupid, so I don’t know the solution. I do believe in HUGE FINES and/or jail time if they can’t pay. I think 30 days for throwing trash out would get people thinking.
As a Trump supporter, and I believe a fair minded one, I disagree that the trashy folks are limited to Biden supporters. I always say I have difficulty finding stats. I’m sure no one can produce stats that support that part of this printed opinion.

Shifless, shuffling , people too lazy to take their trash home, cause they are entitled to do as they please because of “oppression” .

Amen!!!

Thank you for calling attention to this serious issue. I’d like to add, no matter where the garbage is dropped, it most likely will eventually end up in the Chesapeake bay. Then it’s eaten by marine life, which inevitably kills them.
Boaters, people fishing and folks just enjoying the beach are big contributors to this gargantuan problem. They abuse the very place they enjoy so much…. I’ll never understand that.
As a side note that’ll surely follow with an abusive reply from you, for calling out your assumption; Who someone voted for has absolutely nothing to do with if they litter or not. Stop being a baby and saying stupid things JUST to pick a fight with someone because you’re angry and want someone to take it out on.
Yea, I took the bait lol because 1. I voted for Biden AND I’ve picked up pounds upon pounds of garbage on our ESVA beaches, many times. 2. Whatever nasty remark you make about me in response to this, shows YOUR CHARACTER, not mine.

Don’t you just love democracy?
I do, anyway.
In a democracy, everybody gets to express their opinion whether or not others like it or not.
Paul Plante says
Have you ever stopped to consider that you may well be an atypical Biden supporter by not littering?
Paul Plante says
Now, I’m not going so far as to say every Biden supporter is also a litterbug, but the fact that you aren’t one, Cherri Miele, does not mean all the other ones aren’t.
You would hope, Cherri Miele, that there would be more than just you, but the fact of the litter remains.
It didn’t get there itself, and from the looks of what is lying strewn around in those pictures, it doesn’t strike one as the kind of stuff a Trump supporter would be tossing out the window.
Just saying.
Something to think about, anyway.
And I appreciate the fact, Cherri Miele, that you don’t litter, and I only wish there were more Biden supporters who felt the same way about it as you do.

Put it on tv! Invite Environmental enthusiasts!
I am sickened by this tremendous pollution of a trash problem.
Created by people who do not desire to live in a gifted area. Instead they are quick to Disguise our Eastern Shores and wild life with complete garbage everywhere for all to notice.
How can any of us, look the other way?
The people doing this are destroying what could be truly healthy and beneficial for our Eastern Shore communities. If the trash problem was not here, we would invite more healthy inviting opportunities here. Better housings, great places to work, and shop. And…so much more.
Instead we are inviting the worse to come into our communities. Drugs, people who create crime, polluters etc,
What happened to law and order?
Littering is a huge part of following the law.
We need to have county and state inspectors get out from their desks, and solve this disgusting, sad, issue once and for all.
Each and every inspector, as well as town, county and state legislators should be ashamed! Where are you in all this? Just because you do not live here, or near the multiple roads of trash, doesn’t mean you can ignore it.
Or maybe you’re making sure that your road is picked up, when others are not.
People should be arrested and should pay hefty fines!
Hit them where it hurts.
Get out there inspectors!
Paul Plante says
Whatever happened to law and order, indeed!
And there are a lot of us right here in America wondering the same damn thing:

The citizens of The Eastern Shore of Virginia have been doing this for the last 45 years. They love to defecate where they eat.
If young mothers with kids in their car are staring at their phone, getting a hit of that ‘plastic crack’, while going 60-70 mph down RT 13, what do they care about throwing trash out of that same vehicle?
That plastic crack has got a hold on a lot of you all. Tractor Trailer drivers, Dump Truck drivers, Ambulance drivers, Police Officers, Motorcycles, VDOT drivers, Old drivers, and Young drivers, all getting hits from their ‘plastic crack’ as they hurtle themselves through space and time at high speeds.

I have studied this issue. I have picked up the same mile of road for 11 years. It is the result of pure unadulterated ignorance. The problem is quite simple to resolve. Raise the fine for littering to the maximum amount allowed by law and make it mandatory. When a few get caught and receive a large fine, word will get out and they will be less willing to take a chance. Donate the money to the local police department moral fund. Make littering on the shore what it is to speed through emporia. Problem solved.
