At this Monday’s Board of Supervisor’s work session, EMS Director Hollye Carpenter presented the BoS with a shopping list of needs which she feels should be incorporated into the new EMS garage. That project is set to begin sometime in the new year. Carpenter also provided an informal sketch of the proposed layout of the building. Note: Mirror attempted to get a copy of the sketch, but at the time of publication, have not received it. Carpenter told the BoS that the sketch had already been presented to the Ad Hoc Committee that is also working current EMS and safety issues. According to Carpenter, the new EMS garage will be a 40 x 80, 4-bay building with a utility room and shower, second floor bunk room and living quarters, 4 12 x 12 overhead doors, and a breezeway to connect to the existing EMS building on the point in Machipongo. Carpenter explained that the EMS department currently has 4 vehicles: 1 ambulance, 3 Tahoes and a response trailer.
Carpenter also echoed a concern that has been voiced by Supervisor Granville Hogg, as well as AD HOC chairman Patrick Coady, that County EMS will need a higher level of trained EMS responders once the hospital moves.
The EMS department also hoping to add an additional ambulance in the 2017 budget. At the present time a formal procurement process has been initiated.
I believe JD Vance would disagree with you.
