Equipment Operations Intern for VB City FC soccer

Background: Virginia Beach City FC is a National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) expansion team awarded in 2013. VB City FC most recently upgraded its current semi-professional men’s soccer team to field a professional men’s soccer team in the National Premier Soccer League in 2019. The team began to play in 2014 with their home matches now at Powhatan Field. The club has found success on the field earning a Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Berth, two NPSL playoff appearances and an NPSL Mid Atlantic Regular Season Conference Championship Title.

Position Summary: Virginia Beach City FC Athletic Equipment Operations Internship is designed to give the opportunity to develop valuable skills and gain firsthand experience in the professional sports industry. This position assists with the management of the Athletics Equipment Room in a safe, secure, and effective manner.

During the Internship program, participants will be supervised by the Head Coach for Virginia Beach City FC. The intern(s) will learn some aspects of coordination in Gameday Athletics/Equipment Operations. This internship is designed for anyone who is interested in a sports management or equipment operations career.

Please note: This position is UNPAID. There are THREE positions available.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-Assist the head and assistant coach with pre-training and pre-game set up of training room and fields.
-Assist with the post training and post-game cleanup.
-Ensure that the athletes are hydrated during training sessions.
-Maintain a clean, neat, and organized locker room.
-Assist coaching staff with small tasks needed on daily basis, such as handling team uniforms, setting up the locker room(s), etc.
-Demonstrate good interpersonal skills required to work effectively with players, coaches, and other staff members. 
-Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and working relationships with players and personnel at all times.
-Ability to work a flexible schedule to include nights, weekends and holidays based on team needs and event schedules.
-All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
-Applicants working toward a degree with an emphasis in sports management is a plus but NOT required 
-Ability to be proactive with the ability to work independently without the need for supervision.
-Ability to manage multiple tasks at one time.
-Must have strong organizational/communication skills
-Must be detail oriented with the ability to show initiative and leadership abilities.
-Must be punctual and accountable every day
-Must be able to handle the physical responsibilities of an athletic assistant position
-Standing for long periods of time
-Carrying/lifting heavy loads
-Ability to work in extreme heat/cold
-Previous experience in soccer is a plus but not required
