VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Today, the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, a national advocacy group dedicated to protecting the environment and planet, endorsed a slate of candidates in battleground races across the country, including Missy Cotter Smasal’s campaign to represent Virginia’s Second Congressional District.
“This Earth Day is a critical reminder that our fight against the climate crisis and pollution depends on leaders in Congress who will prioritize the health and rights of communities over Big Polluters and special interests, especially communities of color and communities with low wealth who are the most impacted by extreme weather and pollution,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President for Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “LCV Action Fund is thrilled to endorse these candidates for Congress to protect the health of our communities, clean water and clean air, and a free and fair democracy for future generations.”
“It’s an honor to be endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters,” said Missy Cotter Smasal. “Here in Coastal Virginia, we see the very real impact of climate change in our neighborhoods every day. From the flooding on our sidewalks to the rise of Coastal tides, it’s clear that we need a leader who will tackle climate change head on. I’m committed to protecting our local environment and look forward to working together with the League of Conservation Voters for the benefit of Coastal Virginians.”
About LCV Action Fund
The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, the connected federal political action committee (PAC) of the League of Conservation Voters, works to elect leaders who stand up for a clean, healthy environment and to defeat anti-environment candidates who oppose climate action. Since the 1990 election cycle, LCVAF has helped elect and re-elect 95 U.S. Senators and 482 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Over the last several years, our efforts have also helped elevate climate change and clean energy as critical issues in key elections.
