Science and Philosophy Seminar of the Eastern Shore of Virginia has scheduled its next seminar, “Greek Gold: Mathematical Proportions in Music, Architecture, and Art”. The free 90-minute seminar will be at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Apr 6 in the Lecture Hall of the Eastern Shore Community College, 29300 Lankford Hwy, Melfa, VA 23410.
Lee Jordan-Anders will focus on the Greek idea of “measure and commensurability” being equal to beauty and excellence, as in the “golden section.” The talk includes piano recitals of two pieces, and a discussion of the Parthenon, pyramids, and paintings.
Jordan-Anders is Professor of Music and Artist-in-Residence Emerita at Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk, Virginia where she served on the faculty for twenty-nine years. She now enjoys teaching at the Governor’s School for the Arts in Norfolk, and she continues to perform publicly.
