VIMS Center for Coastal Resources Management offers and new to tool to help with local road flooding. Frequent road flooding affects daily commuting, evacuation routes, emergency vehicles, school buses, and package delivery routes. Making transportation networks more resilient requires knowing where frequent road flooding is already happening and how many people are left stranded by road flooding because some portion of their road network is underwater.
A new tool launched by CCRM has maps and information about flooded and inaccessible roads in coastal Virginia. The Coastal Virginia Road Accessibility and Flooding web portal can be used to understand flood impacts to both road infrastructure and the surrounding community.
