EASTVILLE, Va. — Northampton County property owners who believe their real estate assessments are inaccurate will have an opportunity to present their cases before the county’s Board of Equalization on Oct. 15.
The Board of Equalization is scheduled to meet from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Oct. 15, in the second-floor conference room of the Northampton County Administration Building, 16404 Courthouse Road in Eastville.
The board hears objections from property owners concerning real estate assessments and, after reviewing the evidence presented, may increase, decrease or affirm an assessment.
Property owners challenging an assessment must provide a preponderance of evidence showing that the assessment is not uniform with assessments of similar properties or that the property has been assessed above or below its fair market value.
Hearings are scheduled in 30-minute increments to minimize waiting times.
Property owners or their agents who wish to appear before the board should call 757-678-0446, ext. 504, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to request an application.
The Oct. 15 hearing is one of four Board of Equalization meeting dates announced for 2026. Earlier sessions were held July 22 and Sept. 23. The final scheduled session will be Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to noon at the County Administration Building.
The hearings are conducted under authority provided by §58.1-3378 of the Code of Virginia.
