Eastville, Va – According to Sheriff David L. Doughty, Jr. on August 21, 2024, the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the Jamesville area for a welfare check. During that call for service animal control responded and on August 22, 2024 returned to seize a dog that appeared to be malnourished living in deplorable conditions.
On August 27, 2024, the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the same residence and an additional 34 dogs, 2 cats and 4 snakes were seized. The animals were transported to the Eastern Shore Animal Hospital and the Eastern Shore Regional Animal Control Facility for treatment. The Northampton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office.
Three individuals have been charged in connection with the investigation. Tyrone Onley, age 43, and Tamica Gunter, age 25, of Jamesville have been charged with 35 counts of animal cruelty. Joshua Payne, age 36, of Newark, DE was also charged with 4 counts of animal cruelty. Tamica Gunter is being held at the Eastern Shore Regional Jail with bond denied. Tyrone Onley and Joshua Payne still remain at large.
