Oh…hi, there! I’m Bella, an 8-year-old female Jack Russell mix. Even though I weigh in at just 11 pounds, I’m a big dog at heart. You’ll notice in my photos that I have a condition called cherry eye in my left eye. Don’t worry, though. It could be corrected by surgery if it started to bother me, but It’s just a benign cosmetic condition. As far as I’m concerned, it’s my version of Cindy Crawford’s famous beauty mark.
A bit over a year ago, a Chihuahua about half my size and I arrived together at SPCA Eastern Shore as what was reportedly a bonded pair. Now, not every potential adopter is up for adopting two dogs at the same time, so everyone here was delighted when my “partner” and I were adopted together. Unfortunately, though, once we were in our new home, it turned out that in a home environment I had a tendency to bully my smaller companion, and the people decided to return me to SPCA Eastern Shore.
So here I am for a second shot at finding my “furever” home, probably this time with a family where I would be the only dog and my desire to be “top dog” wouldn’t cause any problems. When I go outside for a potty and exercise break, I seem to be interested in the possibility of chasing a neighborhood cat who comes around sometimes, but I’ve never actually lived in a home with a cat, so no one really knows how I’d do in that kind of situation.

Now when it comes to people, I enjoy spending time with them. I’d probably even fit in just fine in a home with older children. I’m happy snuggling in a lap and soaking up lots of love and attention. I often roll over on my back for some belly rubs, and I can be bought easily with treats. One of my hobbies is collecting toys. If there are any lying around, I like to collect them all next to me.
So there you have it. If you think I’d be a good fit as part of your family and you might be interested in adopting me, you can stop by Tuesday-Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., do a kennel walk-through, and pick up an adoption application while you’re here. You can also print out an application from the shelter website (www.shorespca.com) or email shorespca@gmail.com and ask that one be sent to you. Once you have an approved application, the shelter will set up a meet and greet so we can get to know each other better. If you have any questions, just call the shelter (757-787-7385) between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
