Record Attendance Prompts New Security Measures for 2024 Summer Concerts in the Park.
CAPE CHARLES, Va. — Following a record-breaking attendance of over 15,000 people in 2023, the Citizens for Central Park (CCP) announced new measures to regulate alcohol consumption at the 2024 Summer Concerts in the Park.
In response to requests from Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) officials and the Cape Charles Police Department, CCP will implement changes to minimize the amount of personal alcohol brought into the park and to ensure a safer, more controlled environment for concertgoers.
New Limited Concert Entry Points
Working in collaboration with the Cape Charles Public Works Department, CCP plans to restrict pedestrian access to the park at specific times. The South and North Peach Street entrances will be closed before the concerts begin. The North entrance by Park Row will close at 5:00 p.m., and the South entrance, where food vendors are stationed, will close at 6:00 p.m. Both entrances will reopen at 8:00 p.m. During these times, Strawberry and Plum Streets will serve as the only open entry points to the park.
Regulating Personal Alcohol in the Park
The introduction of these measures comes alongside a strict reminder of existing regulations. Bringing personal alcohol into the park is a violation of Cape Charles Ordinances and the terms of CCP’s ABC License. To comply with these regulations, CCP will offer a variety of alcoholic beverages for sale, including Margaritas by the glass and beer by the can.
Concert attendees are encouraged to respect these guidelines to ensure the continued success and safety of the Summer Concerts in the Park. The enhanced security measures aim to create a more enjoyable experience for all participants while adhering to legal requirements.

About the Author
The north Peach Street entrance/exit did not reopen at 8 pm last evening. I asked the police officer guarding the entrance in front of the water fountain and he said the entrances/exits would not reopen. I live at 613 Peach and this closure provided unneeded burden on our family with small children after a big Saturday. The entrances should stay open or at least open at 8pm. We left last evening at 8:30 pm.
