The Virginia Institute of Marine Science Eastern Shore Laboratory presents their public seminar series on the first Wednesday of the month.
The seminar will be presented by Ann Ropp, Master’s Graduate Student Fisheries Science Virginia Institute of Marine Science
Hard clams are economically important in Virginia, but we know very little about their genetics. As with humans, we can learn a lot about hard clams from their DNA. Ann Ropp, VIMS graduate student, will share her work on developing genetic resources for the hard clam. She will tell us what DNA reveals about a clam’s relatives, and how clam genetics can be used by scientists and growers in Virginia and beyond.
