MELFA — The Eastern Shore Coalition Against Domestic Violence is launching a new community fundraising event over Mother’s Day weekend, bringing food, music and advocacy together for a cause.
The organization will host its first-ever Oyster Roast & Pig Pickin’ on Saturday, May 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Vaux Hall Farm.
Dubbed “Mother’s Day Eve,” the event is designed to gather the community for a relaxed evening while raising funds to support survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
Attendees will be served locally sourced oysters and clams, roasted hog, and traditional Southern sides. Beer and wine are included in the $75 ticket price. Live music will be provided by the band Local Conditions, and the event will also feature raffles and prizes, including vacation packages and locally made goods.
Organizers say proceeds will directly support the coalition’s services, including emergency shelter, a 24-hour crisis hotline, crisis intervention and advocacy programs for individuals and families across the Eastern Shore.
Community leaders say the event offers an opportunity not only to celebrate Mother’s Day weekend, but also to raise awareness and strengthen support for those affected by domestic and sexual violence.
