CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Town of Cape Charles is hiring a part-time Administrative Assistant to support its Human Resources and Municipal Clerk offices, town officials announced.
The position, which offers roughly 30 hours per week with flexibility between departments, is geared toward a detail-oriented candidate comfortable juggling a range of administrative duties in a small local government setting.
Responsibilities will span both HR and clerk functions. On the personnel side, the assistant will help with recruiting and onboarding, benefits administration — including reconciling invoices — and tracking staff training. On the clerk side, duties include supporting Town Council meeting agendas, managing records and handling public inquiries. The role also involves public communications, customer service, and contributing to special projects across town departments.
The town is looking for someone with strong organizational skills, the ability to work independently, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe, with a particularly high level of skill in Excel and Word required. Candidates should also have strong writing and communication skills, discretion in handling confidential information, and a willingness to learn financial and agenda-management software.
The position pays $17 to $18 per hour, depending on education and experience, and is eligible for overtime.
