Mark Your Calendars for August 15!
That is the day returning and potential new Academy for Lifetime Learning students can sign up for our fall semester classes. We have some new and exciting classes along with some popular classes offered again.
Some of these fill up fast, so don’t wait. Peggy Swan’s classes seem to fill up immediately, so if you are interested in learning “un peu français” without having to learn grammar or conjugate any verbs, you had better move quickly. The same with Mary Kay’Mulligan’s cooking adventures. Sign up quickly! Her classes are beloved by local culinary enthusiasts. This semester, her students will be learning about rice. They will be cooking and tasting many different varieties and will make both a sweet and a savory rice dish.
Everyone seems to be in a group playing mahjong these days. Do you wish you knew how? Would you like to learn something new? Make new friends? Don’t be afraid others will know more than you do. Mahjong for Beginners is for complete novices.
If you are more interested in doing something outdoors, sign up for Birding on the Historic Onancock School Nature Trail and do leisurely walks while learning about resident and migrating birds in the area. If you would like to learn about fishing, local fisherman Ken Shultz will be offering a one-session class on ESVA Sportfishing.
Are you mystified about Artificial Intelligence and wondering how it might fit into your life? There will be two separate classes in AI, each with a different instructor. Getting Started with AI explores how someone can use AI to save time, spark ideas, and simplify daily tasks with no technical background needed. Another class called AI Without the Overwhelm will explore the history of AI, give demonstrations of its use, and show you how to protect yourself from AI scams.
Do you own a drone? Thinking about getting one? Introduction to Drones will tell you what to think about when planning to buy one, the requirements to be a licensed flyer of drones, and where you can and cannot fly them.

The Academy for Lifetime Learning (A.L.L.) is an all-volunteer organization of individuals who share their interests and experience to provide a rich and varied menu of courses. Money collected from registration fees, other than a small amount used to pay expenses of the organization, is given each year in scholarships to help Eastern Shore high school graduates continue their education.
