There are millions of lead pipes in the ground, installed decades ago, that carry tap water to homes and businesses.
Some places like Madison and Green Bay, Wisconsin, have managed to remove theirs.
But it’s an expensive problem and historically there’s been little federal funding to address it.
“The lack of resources has been a huge issue,” said Radhika Fox, head of the Environmental Protection Agency office of water.
President Joe Biden signed an infrastructure bill last year that finally provided a big boost, allocating $15 billion over five years to assist communities with lead pipes.
It’s not enough to solve the problem, but will help.
Communities that avoid the issue or wait too long may not be eligible.

EDI Associates, a restaurant-based company, will not have to repay two loans worth a total of $1.7 million in federal government loans, according to the report.

One would think the Democrats might have learned from Hillary Clinton’s 2016 mistake and avoided insulting half the voters they’re supposed to win over as stupid, undemocratic buffoons.
But that would require them to first stop thinking of half the electorate as morons who have a soft spot for totalitarianism — which is, apparently, too much to ask.
President Joe Biden (good ole’ Uncle Joe, remember him? The guy who promised to restore civility and decency and normalcy to the Oval Office?) wants you to know you’re a “semi-fascist” if you voted for former President Donald Trump instead of him.
It’s not clear whether Biden actually knows what fascism is since, these days, he can’t be relied upon to know whose hand he shook within a two-minute time frame.
But this is the definition he’s running with: “What we’re seeing now is either the beginning or the death knell of an extreme MAGA philosophy,” he said on Thursday.
“It’s not just Trump; it’s the entire philosophy that underpins the — I’m going to say something, it’s like semi-fascism.”
When asked to explain what Biden meant by “semi-fascism,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre went a step further and attributed the label to the entire Republican Party.
“So what we’re seeing from Republicans, and what we have seen from Republicans these past several years is that they are attacking our democracy,” she told CNN.
“They are taking away our freedom.”
“That’s what we are seeing … and that is what we are trying to prevent.”
There’s no question both sides of the political aisle are drawn to hyperbole and exaggerations, but this is ridiculous.
Though fascism itself is a term that has been debated ever since Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler rose to power, it is easy to say what fascism is not: It is not an ideology that advocates robust free speech and religious rights for all people, which conservatism does.
It is not a political party that supports giving voters the power to decide abortion restrictions in their states, which the GOP does.
It is not a movement that opposes draconian uses of federal power, such as sweeping COVID-19 vaccine mandates and costly student loan debt forgiveness, which conservatism does.
And it is definitely not a political party that protests the weaponization of key institutions like Big Tech and the FBI against political dissidents, which the Republican Party does.
As George Orwell put it, “the word fascism has now no meaning except in so far as it signifies ‘something not desirable.’”
For Democrats, fascism simply means anything they don’t like, and anything that might possibly threaten their control over the governing establishment.
It’s impossible to know who Biden thinks he’s going to win over with this position — besides maybe the talking heads at MSNBC who pull a Jeffrey Toobin every time the words “Trump” and “fascism” appear in the same sentence.
It seems more likely that Biden has decided he has nothing left to lose.
Biden has now become the most unpopular president in modern history, and everyone knows he’s not running again in 2024, no matter what the White House says.
We’re only two years into his presidency, and even a majority in his own party thinks the country is headed in the wrong direction.
Biden is tired of being president, but he’s even more tired of the people who don’t want him to be president.
They are, after all, “semi-fascists” whose views don’t deserve the slightest bit of consideration.
And that is a real slick, sure-fire way to win elections for the Democrats that they are doing with that “semi-fascist” horse**** now that “ULTRA-MAGA” isn’t getting any traction!
Do like Hitler and Stalin and Idi Amin and Saddam Hussein and Zelensky in Ukraine have done, and simply outlaw the competition.
Hey, they are semi-fascists, afterall, so who knows what evil they are capable of, so it is best to crush them now, because they get too strong and steal not only our precious democracy, but the soul of America, as well.

The average cost of student debt, when averaged out, is about $33,000.00 per student. Over the last 20 years the students that I have known, borrowed enough money to pay more than just tuition. I know kids that refused to work and borrowed enough to live for four years.
I will not pay for anyone’s liberal, brainwashed college educations. In fact I would like to see them take a test 9 months after they graduate to see if they really learned anything.
I will never pay reparations to negroes who were never slaves either.

Chasten Buttigieg, the husband of Joe Biden’s transportation secretary Peter, and the father of his children, came to the marriage bed, as the old saying goes, heavily laden with student debt, which debt Peter had to assume as a part of the marriage bargain.

Chasten Buttigieg’s latest comment comes a few months after he was criticized for complaining about the housing prices in Washington D.C.
“These are the guys who complained that they couldn’t afford rent in DC on Pete’s $220K salary (and all their money from writing books),” Republican strategist Matt Whitlock said of Chasten’s post.
“A good reminder that the left’s ‘cancel student loan debt’ goal would overwhelmingly help financially comfortable people.”
Progressive “squad” member Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., had a similar slip-up recently when, seemingly on accident, she helped prove why federal student loan bailouts would largely benefit the wealthy.
“For almost four years, Rep. Tlaib has been making an annual salary of $174,000 as a House member.”
“But she wants the rest of us to chip in to pay off her law degree,” tweeted Michele Perez Exner, a communications coordinator for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.
“She’s a perfect example of why we shouldn’t forgive student loans.”

NEW YORK, Aug 30 (Reuters) – U.S. Treasury yields edged higher on Tuesday, reversing an early morning rally after a sharp rise in job openings added to investor worries about the Federal Reserve’s aggressive monetary tightening measures.
Demand for labor showed no sign of cooling as data showed U.S. job openings rose to 11.239 million in July, which could keep the Fed on its aggressive monetary policy tightening path.

NEW YORK, Aug 30 (Reuters) – U.S. stocks closed lower for a third straight session on Tuesday as a rise in job openings fueled fears the U.S. Federal Reserve has another reason to maintain its aggressive path of interest rate hikes to combat inflation.
Labor demand showed no signs of cooling as U.S. job openings rose to 11.239 million in July and the prior month was revised sharply higher.
“They have to weaken the labor market and how are they going to do that – they are going to jam rates and make things so expensive that people are going to pull back, demand is going to fall off, and people are going to get laid off,” said Ken Polcari, managing partner at Kace Capital Advisors in Boca Raton, Florida.

WASHINGTON, Aug 30 (Reuters) – U.S. job openings increased in July and data for the prior month was revised sharply higher, pointing to persistently strong demand for labor that is giving the Federal Reserve cover to maintain its aggressive interest rate increases.
The Fed is trying to cool demand for labor and the overall economy to bring inflation down to its 2% target.
Fed Chair Jerome Powell warned last week that Americans were headed for a painful period of slow economic growth and possibly rising unemployment as the U.S. central bank aggressively raises interest rates in a bid to bring supply and demand back into balance.

“FBI agent accused of political bias, suppressing Hunter Biden laptop leaves the bureau”

An FBI agent who was accused of bias in handling the investigation into Hunter Biden’s laptop has resigned.
FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Timothy Thibault is no longer with the bureau, Fox News has learned.
Thibault retired over the weekend, according to a source familiar with the matter.
He was walked out of the building on Friday, which is standard procedure, per the source.
Thibault’s name has been in the news for his alleged bias and allegations that he tried to run interference in the Hunter Biden investigation.
Thibault was named by Senate Judiciary ranking member Chuck Grassley in a July 18 letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland. Grassley cited whistleblowers who alleged a pattern of political bias from high-ranking officials, including Thibault.
“As you are aware, Assistant Special Agent in Charge Tim Thibault is not the only politically biased FBI agent at the Washington Field Office,” Grassley wrote.
He added that “the FBI answers to Congress and the American people.”
