CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Cape Charles Historic District Review Board convened for its regular meeting on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. The board approved several Certificate of Appropriateness applications for renovations, additions, and new constructions in the historic district. The decisions are as follows:
- 508 Harbor Avenue: Approval was granted to renovate the exterior of the two-story single-family dwelling, with the condition that the brick will not be painted or covered with lattice.
- 406 Randolph Avenue: Approval was granted to remove the existing metal doors and replace them with fiberglass, replace the front porch wood columns and balustrades, and replace the west side roof eave trim on the two-story single-family dwelling.
- 629 Tazewell Avenue: Approval was granted to install shutters on the front windows of the two-story single-family dwelling, with the condition that shutters are only installed on the front second-floor windows unless evidence is found of shutters on the front first-floor windows.
- 602 Washington Avenue: An after-the-fact approval was granted for a side outdoor shower installed on the side deck and for gutters. Approval was also granted to install lattice around the porches on the single-family dwelling, with the condition that the outdoor shower is screened with landscaping to limit public view.
- Tax Map #83A3-1-32 on Monroe Avenue: Approval was granted to construct a new 1,040-square-foot two-story single-family dwelling.
- Tax Map #83A3-1-420 on Tazewell Avenue: Approval was granted to construct a new 1,072-square-foot one-and-a-half-story single-family dwelling.
The board’s decisions aim to preserve the historic character of the district while accommodating appropriate renovations and new development.
