CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Town of Cape Charles’ Inspector and Compliance Officer has been actively working to ensure short-term rental (STR) properties remain in compliance with local regulations, according to this week’s update.
Efforts included contacting STR owners and property managers regarding re-inspection notices and issuing new Rental Certificates of Occupancy. The officer also reached out to unlicensed STR operators, providing them with the necessary documentation to begin the compliance process.
In addition, work has begun to organize zoning permits for STRs, and property owners with incomplete applications have been contacted to correct deficiencies.
The officer is also continuing professional development, currently enrolled in the International Code Council’s Property Maintenance course in preparation for the required certification examination.
Town officials continue to ramp up oversight and regulation of STRs as part of broader efforts to manage the rapid growth of vacation rentals in Cape Charles.
Not familiar with your Inspector Adam Buell but I’m sure he works harder than your “Code Official”. Perhaps Mr. Buell could do a better job. Are you up for it Mr. Buell? I mean it’s not like the “Code Official” works. Most of the time he’s riding around in his work vehicle which costs more than a police car. Or he can be found up at the beach with his work vehicle playing with his drone. Or just at the office sitting on his ass. When does he ever really work? He helped to condemn Seabreeze Apartments without ever setting foot on the property.
The Cape Charles town government and administration is a cesspool of clowns.
You all masquerading with aliases and taking shots at each other on line is yet another example of the poor stewardship from within Town Hall.
There does not seem to be any accountability – no consequences. The Town Council, the Mayor, the Zoning and Planning boards and departments, and several employees should resign immediately as they are unqualified to administer an entity like this as evidenced by:
1) the lack of budgeting for Cheriton bike trail maintenance despite a commitment voted in favor of unanimously by Town Council
2) lack of enforcement of any kind over thefts from within Town Hall and embracing an audit illustrating these thefts as a “good job”
3) the shame of failing to enforce codes and cutting deals for their friends at the expense of Cape Charles taxpayers
among many other things.
The “good ole boy / who you know” politics of this town must be incredibly lucrative. You all need to go.
Is the code compliance official the one that get a yearly 6 figure pay?
