CAPE CHARLES, Va. — Families looking for a fun summer activity will have the opportunity to laugh, learn, and celebrate reading when the Cape Charles Memorial Library hosts nationally known children’s entertainer Ty-Rone Travis on Wednesday, July 8, at the Cape Charles Civic Center.
The free performance begins at 11 a.m. at the Cape Charles Civic Center, 500 Tazewell Ave., and is open to children of all ages and their families. Seating is limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Travis, a comedian and ventriloquist, is known for combining humor with positive messages designed to encourage children to read, build self-confidence, and believe in themselves. His interactive performances feature colorful puppet characters, audience participation, and family-friendly comedy that appeals to both children and adults.

According to the library, the show aims to provide entertainment while reinforcing the importance of literacy during the summer months, when many schools encourage students to continue reading to help maintain academic skills between school years.
The event is made possible in part through funding from the Virginia Commission for the Arts, helping the library bring educational programming to the community at no cost.
Attendees are welcome to take quick photos to remember the event, but organizers ask that guests do not record the performance.
Library staff also noted that photographs and videos may be taken by Cape Charles Memorial Library personnel during the program for use on the library’s website and social media channels. Anyone who does not wish to be photographed is asked to notify library staff before the event.
The performance is part of the library’s ongoing effort to provide free educational and cultural programming for children and families throughout the summer. Organizers encourage attendees to arrive early, as capacity at the Civic Center is limited.
