CAPE CHARLES, Va.— The Cape Charles Public Works Department reported significant progress on several projects while gearing up for the holiday season, according to its latest update.
A power upgrade on the south side of Mason Avenue has been completed, alongside the installation of power service in Strawberry Plaza. The department also played a key role in preparing Central Park for the town’s Grand Illumination event. Although the gazebo roof could not be decorated this year due to employee safety concerns, plans are underway to address the issue for next year.
The team also tackled challenges from the first Festive Friday, resolving them in time for the second event. Preparations for the town’s popular crab pot drop are ongoing, with the department looking forward to wrapping up the holiday season.
Routine Operations and Maintenance
In addition to holiday preparations, the department has continued its regular services:
- Brush and Debris Collection: Crews collected and recycled nine full truckloads of yard debris, totaling approximately 1,530 cubic yards.
- Trash Services: Municipal trash cans, totaling 38, were serviced daily, along with bulk pick-ups and trash can repairs.
- Work Orders: Several requests, including handicap signage installation on Tazewell and Jefferson avenues, are in progress, awaiting sign deliveries.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Repairs to a 2013 Explorer are pending the arrival of a brake caliper.
- Seasonal Work: Grass cutting has ended for the season but will continue to be monitored for future needs.
The department also delivered three residential trash cans and picked up one. Despite a packed schedule, team members took time to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal together before diving into holiday preparations.
Cape Charles residents can look forward to a festive close to the year, thanks to the dedication of the Public Works Department.
