CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Cape Charles Public Works team is racing to wrap up key maintenance projects before the end of the season, despite facing staffing shortages that have slowed progress, according to the Public Works Manager Ralph Bowen.
Efforts to complete the Central Park restroom project have proven particularly challenging, Chewning said, but the team is moving closer to the finish line. “We’ve had a few team members out this week for various reasons, so we haven’t been able to get as much done as we would have liked,” he said. “In our team, everyone is just as valuable as the next, and when we are missing one person, we feel the difference.”
The department recently completed servicing the Central Park fountain, which is now operational with daily monitoring. Workers also removed a damaged ADA swing from the park for safety reasons, with a replacement on order.
Additionally, the team assisted American Water on Friday with maintenance issues on Mason Avenue and continued to address beach sand management.
